SFU Local Food Project receives funding from Vancity to launch an Urban Agricultural Skills Training Program in 2010!

The Urban Agricultural Skills Training Program will include:

  • A Harvest Box Cook-Off to engage community members in a local-food preparation contest using local items from the Harvest Box.
  • A workshop on Food Preservation to enable community members to preserve produce from our Pocket Market for storage throughout the fall and winter.
  • An interactive Dialogue on “Global Food Systems, Energy, Climate Change, and Sustainable Agriculture” featuring guest speakers.
  • A workshop on Container Gardening, increasing the capacity for students living on campus, in rental suites, and apartments to participate in food production.
  • A workshop on Vermicomposting, providing a hands-on demonstration of composting techniques that can be used in home gardens, community gardens, and on campus to reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfill while producing high quality organic fertilizer that can be used in urban agriculture.

Want to get involved in the planning of the training series? We’d love your input! Email info@sfulocalfood.ca to find out more!

Thank you to Vancity for making this project possible!
