The Solid Ground Training and Workshop program focuses on providing SFU students and community members with the skills to grow and preserve their own food, learn about local food issues, and connect with like-minded people.  We need friendly volunteers to assist the Solid Ground Coordinator. Workshop participation for volunteers is free of course!  

 

 

Main roles include:

  • Helping the Solid Ground Coordinator with set-up or take-down, handing out materials, and event coordination
  • Registering/checking in participants at workshops
  • Promoting the workshops throughout your networks
  • Working with the Solid Ground Coordinator to improve the participant experience at workshops.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Friendly and outgoing demeanor
  • Enthusiasm for local food related issues
  • Thirst for knowledge and learning about growing food/local food issues

 

Commitment:

  • Ability to commit to attending one 1hour training session, and at least three workshops between August and October 2011.  The following are dates and times of workshops where volunteer assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Applying & Timeline:

  • Commitment: attend at least three workshops between August 2011 - November 2011.
  • Please write a max one-page letter outlining the following three questions:
    1. Why do you want to volunteer for the SFU Local Food Project Summer Internship position?
    2. What skills and experience will you bring to the position?
    3. How many hours a week are you willing to commit?
